AWARE provides a free, secure emergency shelter for survivors of domestic and sexual violence, offering a safe haven for individuals and families as they take steps to rebuild their lives. Our advocates are here to support survivors at every stage, from creating a personalized safety plan to coordinating pet care through local partnerships like the Cascades Humane Society. We’re dedicated to ensuring that survivors have the resources, support, and comfort they need during this critical time.

What Can I Bring to Shelter?

Please bring essential items like clothing and important documents. AWARE supplies food, cleaning supplies, bedding, and hygiene items to make your stay as comfortable as possible.

Can I Bring My Children?

We offer family rooms based on availability. After your assessment, our team will confirm room availability for you and your children.

Will My Children Be Able to Attend School?

Yes, we encourage school attendance, and our staff can help with enrollment as needed.

Can I Bring My Pet?

While pets cannot stay in the shelter, we partner with Cascades Humane Society to arrange temporary foster care for your pets during your stay.

Can I Bring My Car?

Yes, you’re welcome to bring your car.

How Long Can I Stay?

Emergency shelter is temporary, with the length of stay determined on a case-by-case basis.

Can I Access Counseling While at the Shelter?

Yes, counseling services are available.

Is There a Fee for Shelter?

No, all shelter services are free.

Do You Provide Meals?

We supply food, allowing residents to prepare their meals independently. Residents can also bring personal food items if preferred.

Will I Have Private Living Space?

Shelter areas are communal, shared with other residents depending on occupancy.

Do You Help Find Housing?

Yes, we provide resources, referrals, and assistance with housing applications.

Can I Return if I’ve Stayed at AWARE Before?

Yes, we welcome returning residents.

Are Visitors Allowed in the Shelter?

For confidentiality, personal visitors are not allowed on-site. However, residents are free to leave and visit loved ones outside the facility.
