Youth secondary survivors are connected to the person experiencing or who has experienced DV, IPV, sexual violence, and/or trauma. They may have encountered abuse, trauma and neglect through their relationship with their parent(s), guardian(s), or other caregiver(s). Secondary survivors share a home with a person experiencing IPV or sexual assault and may experience trauma from witnessing events or from the repercussions of events.
Our youth services support group, Youth Crew, offers a safe and creative space for youth survivors of domestic violence. Through peer-to-peer connections, creativity, and community support, we empower young survivors in alignment with AWARE’s mission. Trauma-informed staff facilitate groups and are always on-site to provide guidance. Additionally, our child advocate is available to assist with enrolling children in school and daycare, ensuring a smooth transition. Transportation to and from school is provided until bussing is secured, helping to create stability for children during this critical time.
